Origin

In 1800 century the Wirehaired Pointing Griffon originated in Holland. In order to create a great hunting dog Edward Korthals mixed many spaniels, pointers and setters and this breed was formed. The Wirehaired Pointing Griffon became a very popular breed of France. In united states the very first Wirehaired Pointing Griffon was know by the name of Russian Setter. In 1990 the Wirehaired Pointing Griffon was introduced by the American Kennel club.

General Description

The Wirehaired Pointing Griffons are medium sized dogs about 24 inches in height. They have a stout and well built body. The most strange part in their total body is their face. The beard and moustache is such arranged on their face that they look really peculiar. They have round shaped head and a long wide muzzle with a brown nose at the tip. they have long ears covered with fur hanging by their head. The Wirehaired Pointing Griffon has a small neck and a wide chest touching their shoulders. Their limbs and legs are long and they have arched toes. The tail of the breed is small and docked and their teeth is sharp enough for a scissor bite. They have a rough double coat and mainly found in colours like chestnut, steel grey, brown and white.

Character

They are just perfect for a house with children. This breed has no demands from its family except love, kindness and support. The Wirehaired Pointing Griffons is very sweet to kids and also to strangers. They are also very affectionate to other dogs. The truth is that this breed is very sweet to everyone. They are not good as a watch dog and they bark very less. They are never aggressive and love to work always.

They love to play with other dogs and small animals. Generally we see that breeds are aggressive or ignorant about strangers but this is not the case with this breed. They are a real darling. They love to get attention and affection from their masters and family. They should not be left alone for long time as they would become frustrated in such situations. Training

The Wirehaired Pointing Griffons should be provided socialization classes from an early age. They are great learners and should be treated consistently. Training should be fair and firm.

The Wirehaired Pointing Griffons is mainly affected by hip dysplasia. Their average life span is 10-12 years.
