Origin
The Wire Fox terrier was created in England just for hunting foxes. They were not at all created for the need of companions. The creation of the Wire Fox terrier was also the result of mixing beagles, Dachshunds, etc. After 1930 the breed became a great companion of human beings.
General Description
The Wire Fox Terrier is a peculiar looking breed. They are medium sized and have a well built body. The Wire Fox Terrier has flat and sloping head and a large muzzle looking like a pipe and a big black nose at the tip. The muzzle has fur just like wires and they are such arranged that it looks like beard on their face. They have a pink tongue and sharp teeth enough for scissor bite. Their eyes are small and can’t be seen because of their fur. They have a small neck and a wide chest touching their shoulders. The Wire Fox Terrier have long limbs and legs and they look very broad because of the fur on their legs and limbs. The tail is peculiar. It is small, docked and slightly curved. They have wired fur all over and are mainly found in white, black and tan colours.
Character
The Wire Fox Terrier is very bold and loyal and devoted to their masters. They are not good to strangers but they are never aggressive. The Wire Fox Terrier can be aggressive towards other dogs. I can say that the Wire Fox Terrier is a perfect family pet and they love to stay attached with the family. They are excellent to kids and love to play with them. They love to get attention from their family members. The breed is very enthusiastic and playful. If they are left alone for a long time they have a tendency of becoming bored. They are very much protective of their belongings and they may do anything if they smell a danger. Even they are stubborn sometimes. Early training and socialization classes are required.
Temperament
They are enthusiastic and playful. That is the reason if they are left alone for a long period they can become bored and destructive. The breed is very much devoted to their family and love kids a lot. They do not like strangers and are aggressive to other dogs. The Wire Fox Terrier love to stay attached with their family and are very protective of their belongings. They may even bite someone if they smell a danger. Generally they are intelligent but sometimes they may become a bit stubborn.
Training
This is an intelligent breed but stubborn at some points of time. They should be trained firmly but harsh methods are not recommended. Training must be done with consistency, firmness and fairness.
Health
The breed may be effected by epilepsy, patellas luxating, hearing problems, allergies etc. Their average life span is more than 15 years.
