Origin
The Vizsla evolved in Hungary and in Hungarian language the word means pointer. This breed is the ancestor of the Turkish yello dog and later it was bred with the Transylvania hound. The Vizsla was generally used for hunting once upon a time the breed became obsolete. This breed is not so popular. After the second world war the breed just vanished.
General Description
The Vizsla is a medium sized breed about 24 inches in height. They have a sleek body as a hound and basically look strange. They have a round head tapered at the top and a long rectangular muzzle with a light brown nose at the tip. They have small eyes. Their eyes are light brown in colour and they teeth is sharp enough for a scissor bite. The Viszla has a long neck and their chest is wide and touches the shoulders. Their limbs and legs are long and thin and their stomach is sleek. The breed has a long tail slightly curved at the tip. The Viszla has long pendant shaped ears and they hang by their head. They have a thin short and glossy coat mainly found in light brown shades.
Character
The Viszla is a very good dog and they have a very sweet nature. They are very enthusiastic and love to play. They are very good to children and prove to be great companions of the kids. This is because they love to play with the kids. They should be provided a lot of exercise daily as workouts are really necessary to keep their health fit. Early training and socialization classes are required. If not provided then they can become destructive in nature. The Viszlas are good to other dogs but they are not safe for small animals as they may kill them. You should not forget that they are great hunters. The breed has a tendency of becoming stubborn and love to do what they like. But at last I should say they are great companions of their families and are very intelligent.
Temperament
The Viszla is very sweet and playful. They are very enthusiastic. They love to play with children but a watch should be kept. Regular workouts should be provided otherwise they can become bored. They are good to other dogs but there is not reason to leave them with small animals. You should know that the Viszlas are hounds and they are great hunters. If they are not provided proper training and socialization from childhood they can become very much destructive. They do not mix with strangers and they may bark loud when they smell any danger from outsiders. They are intelligent in nature but at the same time they are also stubborn and can get destructive if they get bored.
Training
Early training and socialization classes are required. This breed is intelligent but they are also stubborn. Harsh methods should not be used as that would spoil the breed. They should be treated with consistency, love, firmness and fairness.
Health
Generally the breed is very healthy. They are only affected by hip dysplasia but not always. Their average life span is 15 years.
