Origin
In 1930 the Toy Fox Terrier evolved in United States. They are the descendants of the Smooth Fox terrier but they are much smaller and thin than the Smooth Fox terrier. The breed was also mixed with Chihuahua, Italian Greyhounds etc. They were also used as hunters.
General Description
The Toy Fox terrier is a tiny breed and very cute looking. They have a small and sleek body. Their total head and face looks like a peanut. They have a small head like a peanut and a small pointed muzzle with a big black nose at the tip. their eyes are large and they just come out from the sockets. They have a sleek neck and a wide chest touching their shoulders. The Toy Fox terrier has large triangular ears standing on their head and their limbs and legs are thin and short. They have a long tail slightly curled at the tip.
Character
The Toy Fox terrier is a well built and athletic breed and also have a lots of stamina. They are very good hunters just as scent hounds. They are highly socialized, very much active in their work and have high tolerance power. Toy Fox terriers are extremely hard workers and at the same time they love to stay attached with their families. Some are protective but most of them are good to strangers. The Toy Fox terriers are very good to children but they are not well to other animals. They are also dominating sometimes. This breed needs a lot of exercise and if not provided they have a tendency of becoming destructive. They are also good watch dogs.
Temperament
The Toy Fox terriers are very well behaved and they are great hunters. They love human companionship and love to stay attached to their families. Due to their protective instinct they prove to be effective watch dogs. They are extremely good to children but they are aggressive to other dogs and you cannot trust them with non canine pets. They are very playful and need a lot of exercise. You should not leave them alone for a long time. Sometimes they are dominating so they should be trained from an early age. The Toy Fox terrier are beautiful hunters but they do not like strangers much.
Training
The Toy Fox terriers are very difficult to housebreak. They should be socialized properly in order to prevent them from being timid and aloof. They should be trained properly with firmness. As they are the hunter dogs they should be trained with consistency, patience and fairness.
Health
The Toy Fox terrier can be effected by cataracts, shoulder dislocation etc. Their average life span is 14 years.
