Origin
In 19th century the Staffordshire Bull terrier evolved in Staffordshire of England. The Staffordshire Bull terrier was the result of mixing the bull terrier and the terriers. The breed was created specially for bull fighting. In the due course of time the breed lost its popularity and became obsolete. In the 20th century the Staffordshire Bull terrier made a come back again in the United States and became popular there.
General Description
The Staffordshire Bull terrier is not very large. It is medium sized about 16 inches high but it has a stout, powerful and muscular body. They are very strong and brave. They have a wide head flat at the top and a broad rectangular shaped
Muzzle with a black nose at the type. This dog basically looks like a macho. The Staffordshire Bull terrier has a short neck which thick enough and so short that it is almost invisible. They have a wide chest touching the shoulders. And tiny fat limbs and legs. Their legs are close to the ground. Their tails is long and straight have triangular shaped ears folded forward. The Staffordshire Bull terrier has short and glossy coat and they are mainly found in fawn, black, blue and brindle colours.
Character
The Staffordshire Bull terrier is very strong and stubborn in nature. They are very well behaved and they are also very gentle towards everyone. They love kids very much and love to play with them. Strangers are also safe as the Staffordshire Bull terrier love and give a warm welcome to the strangers also. The breed is extremely cool to all those animals they know but they might be a bit aggressive to those who they do not know. The Staffordshire Bull terrier is independent by nature but it also highly intelligent. Though it is not tough to train the Staffordshire Bull terrier but still they should be handled firmly.
Temperament
The Staffordshire Bull terrier is very intelligent and sweet by nature. They just love everyone. They love kids, strangers, other dogs as well as small animals. They love to play with other dogs and small animals but they may be aggressive to animals who they do not know. Generally we see that breeds are aggressive or ignorant about strangers but this is not the case with this breed. They are really well behaved to strangers also. They love to get attention and affection from their masters and family. They should not be left alone for long time as they would become frustrated in such situations. They are never good as guard dogs. The Staffordshire Bull terrier is not at all aggressive and prove to be excellent companion. They may be independent so they should be treated firmly.
Training
They are intelligent but they are independent in nature and love to do what they like so their master should be dominant. Harsh training methods should not be used but consistent, fair and firm training is the best.
Health
They may suffer from CHD, cataracts etc. Their average life span is 10-16 years.
