Origin

The Smooth Fox Terrier was mainly created by mixing many breeds like English Hound, Beagle, Dachshund. This breed generally helped the hunters to hunt foxes. Generally they were same as the fox terriers but in 1984 they were introduced as separate breeds.

General Description

The Smooth Fox Terrier is a medium sized breed about 22 inches high. They have a well built and muscular body. They are very strong and brave. They narrow long head and a long pointed muzzle with a black nose at the tip. their head and muzzle are at the same level. Their eyes are small and have a long muscular neck. The Smooth Fox Terrier has broad chest touching their wide shoulders. They have a long tail standing straight and small ears folded in front. The breed has long muscular limbs and stretched legs. The Smooth Fox Terrier has a long pink tongue and sharp teeth enough for a scissor bite. They have a small coat and mainly found in four types of colours, white and black, white, white and brown and white, brown and black.

Character

The Smooth Fox Terrier is a well built and athletic breed and also have a lots of stamina. They are very good hunters just as scent hounds. They are highly socialized, very much active in their work and have high tolerance power. Smooth Fox Terriers are extremely hard workers and at the same time they love to stay attached with their families. Some are protective but most of them are good to strangers. The Smooth Fox Terriers are very good to children but they are not well to other animals. They are also dominating sometimes. This breed needs a lot of exercise and if not provided they have a tendency of becoming destructive. They are also good watch dogs.

Temperament

The Smooth Fox Terrier are very well behaved and they are great hunters. They love human companionship and love to stay attached to their families. Due to their protective instinct they prove to be effective watch dogs. They are extremely good to children but they are aggressive to other dogs and you cannot trust them with non canine pets. They are very playful and need a lot of exercise. You should not leave them alone for a long time. sometimes they are dominating so they should be trained from an early age. The Smooth Fox Terrier are beautiful hunters and they are also not bad to strangers.

Training

The Smooth Fox Terriers are very difficult to housebreak. They should be socialized properly in order to prevent them from being timid and aloof. They should be trained properly with firmness. As they are the hunter dogs they should be trained like that.

Health

The Smooth Fox Terrier can be effected by cataracts, shoulder dislocation etc. Their average life span is 14 years.
