Origin

The Samoyed originated in Siberia and they were used by the hunters, fishermen and were also used for pulling sledges. Actually the people of Siberia that is the group of hunters and fishermen there are called the Samoyed. This breed has been named after them. Robert Scott was an explorer and he introduced this breed to England. In the present date the Samoyed has become one of the most attractive show dog.

General Description

The Samoyed is such a breed that can work hard. It has a strong medium shaped body and they have a proud appearance. Their body is muscular and very athletic. They are not too long and they are very pretty. The Samoyed has a round shaped head and a pointed muzzle with a greyish black nose at the tip. Their eyes are almond shaped and are black in colour. The Samoyed has broad chest they touches the shoulders and they also have strong, muscular limbs and legs. Their teeth is sharp and enough for a scissor bite and they have erect ears standing on their head. The Samoyed has a fluffy tail totally curled round. Their long double coat helps them a lot in the cold weather. They are mainly found in white, biscuit, cream and yellow colour.

Character

The Samoyed is very gentle and intelligent by nature. They are capable of hard works and they are also capable of hardships. The Samoyed is very much loyal and devoted to its family and they have a tendency of pleasing their master. Generally this breed is more close to any one member of the family but they are not at all aggressive to others. They are very much socialized and they love to make friends and that’s why they cannot become good guard dogs. The Samoyed is really cool to kids and they love to be attached with their family. They love human interaction a lot and they should not left alone for a long time otherwise they can become destructive. They are good but they have a bad habit of chewing things. The Samoyeds are great barkers and they are good to animals but they must not be left alone with small animals.

Temperament

The Samoyed is a very intelligent breed and they are very much athletic. They love to work and are very keen in making friends. They cannot become excellent guard dogs. This breed is cool to children and other animals also but still they should not be left alone with small animals. They should be trained from an early age. They love to stay with the family and should not be left alone. They are not at all suitable for kennel life.

Training

The Samoyeds are intelligent but sometimes they can be stubborn and independent in nature. Training is very important and that should be done with firmness, fairness and consistency.

Health

Same as many other breed they may also be affected by hip dysplasia and diabetes. Their average life span is 12-15 years.
