Origin

Nobody knows about the actual history of the Rottweiler. It is said that the Italian Mastiff is the ancestor of the Rottweiler. This dog was actually created in Rottweil which is a town in Germany. The Rottweiler was mainly used as watch dogs and also for looking after live stock. In the 1800 century this breed became obsolete. The Stuttgart breeders made great efforts and saved the Rottweiler breed and they again arrived in the beginning of the 20th century. This is a very intelligent bred and used for many purposes like carting, looking after live stock and they were also used by police.

General Description

The Rottweiler is a large breed and it is very brave and strong. It has a muscular and royal appearance. They have a large stocky, stout and muscular fatless body. The Rottweiler has a wide head rectangular in shape and broad big muzzle with a black nose at the tip. Their eyes are almond shaped and hazel in colour and they have a sort of red eyebrows over their eyes. The Rottweiler have a broad neck which is muscular and short and they also have a wide shoulder and as wide chest which touches the shoulders. The skin in their neck is very thick and have folds. Their ears are short and hang by their head and the Rottweiler has straight muscular limbs and legs. They have a long tail and their coat is short and silky. They are mainly found in black and red colours. They have strong jaws and their teeth is very sharp and enough for a scissor bite.

Character

The Rottweiler is a very good breed. They are very well behaved, good tempered, intelligent and very much loyal and devoted to their family. The Rottweiler are very much protective of their family and they may do anything to protect their families. They have a high strength level and they fight well. They are very serious and confident by nature and they need early socialization and training classes. If properly trained this breed proves to be a great companion but if proper training is not provided then the breed can become very stubborn and dangerous. They thrive on human relationship and are very good to children. They do not mix well with strangers and they can also be aggressive towards other dogs.

Temperament

The Rottweiler is dominant at times and that’s why they need a dominant owner. This is a very good dog, they are sweet and loveable but they are not recommended for novice owners. They are big in size and if properly socialized they can also be very good to kids. This breed is a giant and they are also protective in nature. It is very confident and gentle. They would not harm the kids but they are not recommended for them due to their size. They are very loyal to their families and they may even be dangerous for trespassers. They cannot mix with strangers sometimes due to their shyness. The Rottweiler is a great companion and family dog. They are very alert and prove to be great watch dogs. If early training is provided they are also good to other pets.

Training

As the Rottweiler is very intelligent and willing to learn things it’s not a great deal. But sometimes they can become stubborn and independent so they should be trained with firm hands.

Health

This breed may be affected by hip dysplasia like many others and their average life span is 10-12 years.
