Origin
It is said that this is the most ancient breed to be kept for domestic purposes. In the 3000 BC the Pharaoh Hound was created and since that time they are the sole companions of people. it is said that this breed came from Malta. In 1974 it was introduced as the national dog of the country and in 1983 they were introduced by the AKC.
General Description
The Pharaoh Hound has a shiny outlook and they are a medium sized dog. They have a sleek and thin body but they are well muscled. They have a small flattened head and a long sharp muzzle with a red coloured nose at the tip. their neck is long and muscular and the Pharaoh Hound has a level Backside. They have a sleek well shaped and fatless body and their ears are large triangular standing straight on their head. The Pharaoh Hound has a wide chest that touches the shoulders and their limbs and legs are straight boned and very thin. They have a clean look and their eyes are red and set apart. The Pharaoh Hound has a long tail slightly curved at the tip.
Character
The Pharaoh Hound is very intelligent and calm by nature. They are very sporty and love human companionship to a great deal. You should not leave them alone for long time and they are not at all suitable for staying at kennels. This breed is very good to kids but they do not mix with strangers well. They also love other pets and they are never aggressive. They have a tendency of growing timid so they require early training to get rid of that. They are good to pets but you should not leave them alone with extremely small animals like cats. Basically this breed is a family dog.
Temperament
This breed is very athletic and loves to play and be indulged in sports. This is a totally family dog and loves kids as well. They do not mix well with strangers but they are also not aggressive to them. They are good to other animals but they should not be left alone with small animals like cats. The Pharaoh Hound love human companionship to a great deal and should not be left alone for lengthy periods. They are great diggers and jumpers. The Pharaoh Hound has a sharp listening power and they can listen to sound which even their masters can’t hear. They bark too much.
Training
The breed is too intelligent that they are easy to train. They are very timid so harsh methods should not be used while training. Training should be done with consistency and fairness.
Health
In comparison to other breeds the Pharaoh Hound is very healthy and they are only affected by medicines which don’t suit them. Their average life span is 11-14 years.
