Origin
In the 16th century the Papillon was created in Europe. It is a very cute looking breed and mainly considered as the toy dog. It captured the laps of all rich people in Europe. According to French language the word Papillon means butterfly. This breed was very popular in Italy in the Renaissance period.
General Description
The Papillon is a separate looking, cute and and a mini breed which is about 11 inches in height. It is generally called the toy dog and it captures the lap of rich people. it has a small round head and a small tiny and pointed muzzle with a black nose at the tip. Their ears are straight and stand over their head but they look as wide leaves because of the hair on the sides of the ears. They have a small narrow neck and a level backside. The Papillon has straight boned tiny limbs and legs and a curled furry tail. They have a silky coat all over and they are mainly found in white and red colour.
Character
This breed love to stay as individuals and are independent in nature. They are very energetic and beautiful. It is very lively and alert in nature. This breed always has a proud expression on the face. The Papillon proves to be a great companion. They are very much affectionate and gentle. They are very devoted and loyal to their master. Though they are very small in size they are not at all less in courage than other breeds. The Papillon has a great determination about anything. These dogs are very jealous and possessive regarding their masters or owners. They do not like strangers at house. It is difficult to train this breed but due to their intelligence and fast learning attitude it is generally easy to train them. These dogs are good to children but they may become aggressive if they are teased or disturbed.
Temperament
This is a lovely breed, independent in nature but they are very loyal and devoted to their families. The Papillon is basically a one master dog. They mostly obey one in the family. It is a very energetic breed, playful and love human companionship very much. In spite of being small in size they are brave and very protective of their masters. They love getting human attention a lot. The Papillon is very alert and have a negative attitude towards strangers. this makes the Papillon a great watch dog. Not at all recommended for children as they might get furious or even bite if they are teased and threatened. They may be totally aggressive towards other pets. The Papillon should be trained properly from early age.
Training
As I told before this breed is intelligent but they are really difficult to train due to their stubborn and independent nature. But if the training is done with consistency, patience and fairness then better results are expected. This breed require socialization classes from an early age.
Health
They are affected by corneal problems, colds, stress etc. They should be fed limited. Their life span is the greatest among all breeds that is 15 years.
