Origin
Though the name is same but this breed is not at all similar to the Doberman Pinscher. The Miniature Pinscher is a much older breed than the Doberman Pinscher. This breed was created in Germany and this was a result of mix between many terriers and also the German Pinscher is its ancestor. They are good watchdogs and they were also used to hunt rats.
General Description
The Miniature Pinscher is a very small breed about 12 inches in height and they have a totally fatless and muscular stout body. They have a small head like a peanut and a small pointed muzzle with a black nose at the tip. They have two large almond shaped black eyes set wide apart and they seem like coming out of the sockets. In the face the main attraction are their ears. The Miniature Pinscher ears are very large and standing straight on their head. It has a short neck and a straight body. They have very tiny thin limbs and legs. The pinscher has a docked tail. They have a silky small coat and they are mainly found in colours like red, black ,rust etc.
Character
The Miniature Pinscher are very much alert and love to play. They are always enthusiastic and restless. This breed is very much devoted and loyal to their families. They do not mix with strangers well. They require early socialization classes. If socialized properly they would be excellent to children and other pets also. They are protective by nature and not at all recommended for novice owners. This breed is generally very protective of their food so the master should handle the dog with real heavy hands. They often bark to make their family aware of anything that they smell a threat.
Temperament
The Miniature Pinscher proves to be an excellent companion. This breed has a great sense of humour, they are very brave and also enthusiastic at the same time. It is a lively dog and loves to bark a lot. They bark at everything from which they get the smell of threat. These dogs are obedient and it is not that tough to train them. At some point of times they can behave in a stubborn manner and so their master should be dominant. They are very protective of their food and belongings. They must be handled firmly. They have a tendency of being aggressive towards other dogs but if trained properly then they would get rid of this. The Miniature Pinscher is good to children but they may not mix with strangers well.
Training
This breed is very intelligent but stubborn at times so they need to be handled a bit firmly. But harsh and heavy handed methods are not recommended. They should be trained with consistency , firmness and fairness.
Health
Strange part is that this is a very healthy breed and their average life span is 12-14 years.
