Origin

The Miniature Bull Terrier is a mix of the Bulldog and Old English Terrier . In 1830 this breed was used to fight the bulls. In 1850 this dog was started to be used for other purposes. But it was not successful in fighting. It has also been used as a watch dog, herd dog etc.

General Description

The Miniature Bull Terrierhas a stout, strong, thick and bulky body. They have a round shaped body, broad shoulders and horizontal tail. Their head is long, sharp at the tip, broad and thick. The top of the head is flat but it is sloping down as a pig. It has a big nose and dark almond shaped eyes. They have a very short coat and found in various colours like black, fawn, brindle, white etc.

Character

The Miniature Bull Terrier is very lively in nature but at the same time it is also lazy sometimes. It is a muscular, strong and sweet breed. If proper training and socialization is not provided then this breed can become very dominant. That is why the Miniature Bull Terrier is recommended for experienced owners. It is polite and very obedient and also loves human companionship. This breed was generally used for fighting but afterwards it became very gentle and affectionate. The Miniature Bull Terrier is not used as a watch dog any more but it reacts seriously when challenged. It has a great deal of courage but at the same time they are very good to people. if trained properly they prove to be excellent family pets. They are good to children but not recommended for small kids. The bull terriers are very aggressive towards other pets and animals.

Temperament

The Miniature Bull Terrier is very energetic and strong breed. They need early socialization classes otherwise things can go out of control. They are great companions. This breed is good to people and children but they are not suitable for small kids. They are very much aggressive towards other dogs and animals. They should not be left alone for a long time as they can become bored and destructive in such situations. They are good natured and gentle but may be dominant at some time. this breed is not recommended for novice owners.

Training

Early training classes are required as this breed is very dominant and independent in nature. As this is a very aggressive breed a firm training is required. In spite of being stubborn they always love to please others.

Health

They are a healthy breed compared to other dogs but still they are affected by certain problems. They may be affected by zinc deficiency. Some of them are also affected by deafness and kneecap dislocation. This breed is also affected by fleas and various parasites. They also have a chance of getting overweight. Their average life span is 10-12 years and average litter rate is 5.
