Origin
This is a European breed and in the 14th century this breed evolved in France. Due to its peculiar looks they are known as the mini lions and they were mainly kept by aristocratic people. In the 20th century the Lowchen almost vanished but Madame Bennert from Belgium saved the breed. This breed has also been introduced in the Guiness book of world records because it is the most valuable breed on the earth and they are very rare.
General Description
The Lowchen is called the mini lion and it looks like the Bichon Frise with a small round head, black eyes and a black nose at the tip of the muzzle. They have pendant shaped ears and are full of fur. They have a small body but they are stout and strong. The Lowchen has a small tail but it stands straight. They have long hair and the fur is totally straight without any curls. The Lowchen is mainly found in white, lemon and black colors. They have small limbs and legs and they have a balanced figure.
Character
This is a small breed and totally balanced. They are very playful and cheerful and nature. They are strong and stout. The Lowchen love human companionship to a great level and they should not left alone for a long time.
The behaviour of the Lowchen is exactly like all other small dogs. They are cute and love to be loved and attended by their family members. They love their family very much and are excellent to children and kids. This breed is also good to other pets and animals but they bark a lot. For this barking habbit they can be used as great watch dogs. They need a lot of exercise and play, and if they are left idle they can become frustrated.
Temperament
The Lowchen is very intelligent and calm by nature. For this reason they are very easy to train. It is a small breed but dont go by their size as they are very brave. They are very sensitive and timid and love to be a part of the family always. They love human companionship to a great level. This is a well behaved breed and the Lowchen is excellent to kids and other pets. They are not at all aggressive. If you see the dog then you will think that it is a very weak one but it is not so. They always have a mentality to make their masters happy. Sometimes they may be of independent nature. This breed is very protective of their family and at the same time they are great barkers. In this way they make their family members alert of any unwanted situations.
Training
This breed can be easily trained as they are very intelligent by nature and fast at learning things. Early socialization classes are required. They must be given fair and consistent training.
Health
Generally this breed is a healthy one but sometimes they may be affected by slipping kneecap problems as other small dogs. Their average life span is 14 years.
