Origin

The Lhasa Apso was created in Tibet and the noble people of Tibet kept this breed. People of Tibet thought that this dog was very good and holy and they also thought that this was the key to luck. About 2000 years ago this dog was used in monasteries as guards. This is a very intelligent dog and have sharp hearing power.

General Description

The Lhasa Apso is a very small breed. The main attraction of the Lhasa Apso is its long double coat. They have a round shaped head and a small cute muzzle with a black nose at the tip. They have two big black eyes set apart and they have a pink tongue. The Lhasa Apso has two small ears which cannot be seen because of their lot of hair around their face and head. The hair on their face and head is so long that it looks like the bid Chinese beard and moustache. Their back side is totally level and they have a small neck and small limbs. Their coat totally silky and they are mainly found in colors like golden, black, white, brown etc.

Character

The Lhasa Apso is very intelligent and enthusiastic by nature and they are wonderful dogs. Generally they are very loyal and devoted to their masters but they do not have any special kind of feeling with children or they may not be very good to children. So they should be socialized from an early age. Early socialization and training classes are very important. The Lhasa Apso is generally stubborn in nature so they should be treated with firm hands. They do not mix with strangers well and they are very good guard dogs. They have a terrible tendency of barking too much and they do not like other pets in the same house.

Temperament

The Lhasa Apso has a mixed type of temperament. On one side they are very much loyal and devoted to their masters and they are also very much independent on the other side. They love to do whatever they like. They are very lively and enthusiastic by nature. This breed is not very good to children and kids should not be mischievous towards them. They love to get attention from their family members and they are excellent guard dogs. They love human companion ship and they should not be left detached for a long period as thing may get worse. They also have a biting tendency if they are angry. This breed is not at all suitable for a small family.

Training

They have a very independent and stubborn attitude and they are really difficult to train. The Lhasa Apso should be trained with real firmness and consistency. At the same time they should also be praised during training sessions.

Health

They can suffer from renal dysplasia, kidney problems etc. Very few may be affected by hip dysplasia. Their average life span is 10-15 years.
