Origin
Nobody has proper information about the Komondor. The Russian Owtcharkas are the ancestors of this breed and the Magyars brought them into Hungary a long time ago.this breed was basically used to look after the live stock. In 1937 the American kennel club introduced this breed but it became totally obsolete during the World War II. After the end of war within fifteen years this breed again came into existence and were brought to America. But the quantity of this breed is less all over the world.
General Description
This is more or less a large sized dog and it has a bid and muscular body. It is very strong. They have a bulk head and a short and broad muzzle with a black nose at the tip. The Komondor has a short wide neck and a wide chest. The main attraction of their looks is their coat. Their body cannot be seen at all due to their chord like coat. They have a thick double coat covered with chord like fur. As they grow up the chords also increase in length. It seems like there are thousands of rope on their body. Because of their fur they look fat also. They have hanging ears that generally cannot be seen due to their coat.
Character
The Komondor is not suitable for average owners who do not have any experience of keeping pets and they need early socialization and training classes. This breed is not at all gentle. They can become angry and very aggressive towards family members or strangers. Their behaviour with other pets is also not well. They are very much stubborn and independent in nature. They are very enthusiastic and always need to be involved in activities. If not so they can become frustrated quickly. Their memory is remarkable. The Komondor is very much devoted to their family and they can become highly protective of their family members and community.
Temperament
Generally we cannot say that Komondor has a cool temperament. They are strong and brave. This breed is not at all recommended for novice owners as this breed may be very much independent and stubborn at times. Generally they are good to family but they may get serious fast and they are very aggressive to strangers as well as other dogs. Komondor is very enthusiastic breed. They always need to be engaged in activities otherwise they may become frustrated and destructive. They are very devoted and protective of their family. The Komondors are good guard dogs due to their excessive barking habbits.
Training
This breed require an early training. They are very stubborn and independent and at the same time they are also aggressive. Training may be a big deal. They should be trained with firmness and consistency.
Health
They can be affected by hip dysplasia, bloat, eye problems, entropoion etc. Their average life span is 12 years.
