Origin

The Greyhound evolved in Arabia and they were exported to England by 900 AD. They are mainly the race dogs. Their speed is more than 40 miles and hour. This dog was mainly used for hunting the deer due to their high speed. The main attraction of the Greyhound is the speed. Once if the speed is gone it is totally destroyed.

General Description

The Greyhound is a large dog. It is very athletic and its appearance is such that it represents speed. The Greyhound is a long and high dog about 30 inches in height. It has a flat and small head and a ling sharp muzzle with a brown nose at the tip. The ears are small and cropped and bent towards back. They have an extremely long neck just like a giraffe. Its back side is level and bent down towards the tail. They have a broad chest that touches the elbow and a thing sleek stomach. The breed is very skinny and it has long sleek and straight limbs and legs. Their back portion is a bit bent towards the ground and their tail is straight and large which almost reaches the ground. The Greyhound has a short and thin coat which is mainly found in red colour.

Character

The Greyhound is very smooth and gentle in nature and they are too good to kids. This is a strong breed and remarkable for their speed. They are very much athletic and very talented. They are good watch dogs and also capable of hunting. Generally this dog can stay alone and it also is very suitable for the family. This breed also loves human interaction and loves to be a part of the family. They are very timid by nature so they should have good training to get rid of that. This breed is generally good with other dogs and even non canine pets. They are not good at barking.

Temperament

They Greyhound is very gentle and determined by nature. They are great racers and they are very enthusiastic and fun loving at the same time. They love to lead their life alone but they also love human interaction and being with the family. They are very timid and sensible by nature and does not always stay with human beings. The Greyhound always want to run and love to relax always. They need exercise not much but they love to run. This breed is great to children and other dogs. But in spite of being polite to strangers they do not mix with them well.

Training

This is an intelligent breed and they are also timid at the same time, Heavy handed methods are not recommended but they should be trained consistently, with firmness and fairness.

Health

The Greyhounds mainly suffer from bloat so they should be fed less. Their average life span is 10-12 years.
