Origin
The French Bulldog is a minor version of the British bulldog. They were later brought to France by the breeders. The breeders of France bred them with the French terriers and they were named like that for that reason.
General Description
The French Bulldog looks like a comic character and it has a fat, bulky and broad structure with a gloomy appearance in its face. The skin on its face is folded and it falls downwards like an old man. The bulldog has short, fat and small legs. Its chest is so broad that it touches the elbows. They have a docked tail and a short muzzle with a black nose on the tip. They have a flat head and a flat back. They have a short tight coat and found in many colours like red, fawn, brindle, fallow etc. It is 14-15 inches in height and 40-60 pounds in weight.
Character
The French Bulldog is a strong, heavy and brave breed. They are not at all aggressive but very aristocratic in nature. They this breed has a freakish sense of humour. Its appearance is connected to its personality. All bulldogs are not the same but they are generally very protective and devoted to their family. They are great companions and they love their family very much. This is a very intelligent breed and good at hunting. The French Bulldog is very gentle and obedient in nature. They always remain eager to please their master. This breed is very alert and playful. They are independent in nature. If the French Bulldog gets the proper training then they are really good to children and might be aggressive to other pets. They are very fond of water. It is a friendly breed and prove to be good companions. They are very protective of their family.
Temperament
This breed is very dignified and devoted to their masters. The French Bulldog is very dependent on others, gentle in nature and good to children. They are also good to pets but they may have a tendency of dominating other dogs. They love human attention very much. The French Bulldogs are excellent watch dogs but they do not bark much. They guard their food very much and they should not be given food in front of children and other pets. They should not be teased while eating or things can get worse. Because of its funny attitude it is always the mode of attraction. This breed is very sensitive in nature. They are also very intelligent.
Training
Obedience and socialization classes should start at early ages. French Bulldogs are very stubborn at certain times and that’s why their owner should be really dominant.
But at the same time they should not be trained harshly. Training should be firm, fair and consistent.
Health
The life span of the French Bulldog is very short. They can be affected by many diseases like thyroid problems, heart problems, ectropion, entropion, cataracts etc. Their life span is 8-10 years.
