Origin
The Field Spaniel are English dogs as they evolved in England. These are the descendants of the English Cocker spaniel. The breed almost became obsolete in the 1800 century due to bad breeding. They were again developed in the 1920s. In United states this breed is very less. They were mainly used for tracking and hunting. They were called the bird dogs due to their good nature.
General Description
The Field Spaniel is larger in size than the cocker spaniel. Their body weight is also more than the cocker spaniel. They have a perfect round shaped head which is tapered at the top. The Field Spaniel has a medium sized muzzle with a brown or reddish nose on the tip. They have a narrow chest and their top line is totally level. Their back portion is slightly bent towards their tail. They have large ears covered with curly hair and the ears almost reach the shoulders. The Field Spaniel have a silky coat all over their body but they have excessive fur all over their legs, chest, neck and tail. They are found mainly in liver colours.
Character
Field Spaniels are also too god like all other spaniels. This breed is very loyal and devoted to the family they live in. The Field Spaniel is very energetic, enthusiastic and love to play always. They love human interaction to a great extent and love to be the part of the family and love to stay with the family. You should not leave this breed alone for a long time as they can become frustrated in such situations. This breed loves to work. They are very cheerful, jolly and kind in nature and that’s why they are called the bird breed. This breed is also sensitive at the same time. They are great watchdogs because of their alertness and they are also good hunters. The Field Spaniel is very good to children and other pets. Some are friendly with strangers and some are not. Real care should be taken of the breeding as if that is not proper then the breed can behave unexpectedly.
Temperament
The Field Spaniel are loyal, enthusiastic, restless but obedient at the same time. They are good to children and other pets but sometimes they may become harsh to animals or dogs they do not know. This breed is good for household and are also very good to strangers if properly socialized. Sometimes they may become one master dog. They may listen to only one person in the family. They are great watch dogs and bark too much. Their extreme alertness and protectiveness make them tremendous watch dogs. They love to get attention and care from other people. Things may get worse if they are teased. The Field Spaniel loves to bark which makes them great watch dogs.
Training
Early training and obedience classes are required. They are very obedient and so it is easy to train them. They would not respond to harsh training methods so they should be given fair and consistent training.
Health
Generally this breed is a healthy breed than others but due to their excessive fur they can be affected by ear infection. They can also suffer from hip dysplasia as others. Their average life span is 10-12 years and average litter rate is 6-8.
