Origin
The king Charles spaniel is the ancestor of Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. These dogs were found in the sixteenth, seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. These dogs were mainly kept by the rich people in that period. People who bred this dog had a target to create something same as found in the paintings of that time. It is said that king Charles had a same breed. During the 1940s the word cavalier was added to their names.
General Description
The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is very beautiful, attractive and cute looking. It is a very small breed and very tiny and short in size. It is too short in height and length. Cavalier King Charles Spaniels have a small round shaped head and small cute muzzle with big black round eyes and a big black nose at the tip. They have large hanging ears and covered with fur all around. They have a large tail covered with feathers. Its whole body is covered by fluffy and silky coat and is found in many colours like ruby, black and tan. Sometimes they are found in a pearl background and chestnut spots all over.
Character
The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is very cute and an ideal as a lap dog. They are very gentle in nature but at the same time they are very playful. Their sporting nature also makes them good at hunting. The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is great swimmer. Though this is small breed they are very eager at outgoing, playful and very loyal to their family. They have a tendency of pleasing people who they live with. It is very easy to train these dogs as they are extremely intelligent and very much responsive towards commands. Extremely well behaved and very nice to other pets and animals. They are great companions and love human interaction very much. It is very necessary to keep them in human contact in order to keep them happy. The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel has habit of chasing and should never be left totally alone outside in open. They may not be very friendly to strangers but they are very good to children. They should not be left alone for a long time. Their sharp smelling power and eyesight makes them very good hunters.
Temperament
The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is very cute and have a very much loving attitude. They are very enthusiastic and playful. They are good to children but may not be that friendly to strangers. Very much loyal and devoted to their families and love to please others. They are also very good to other pets and prove to be great companions. Due to its small size and good nature it is totally suitable for novice owners. They should be kept under control as they may have a bad habit of chasing small animals as birds and all. Some of them are victims of shyness but is proper training is provided they can get rid of this. They love human interaction very much and love to be a part of the family. They should not be kept separate for a big period as thing can get worse.
Training
This breed is very easy to train this breed as it is very intelligent and response to commands well. They are very obedient and fast at learning. If they are trained with care and praise they things can prove to be really successful.
Health
The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel can be affected by a number of diseases. They may be affected by eye and ear problems, dislocated kneecaps, hip dysplasia etc. They also prone to heart problems and they should be fed in the limit as they have chances of putting on fat. Their average lifespan is 9-14 years.
