Origin
The Cane Corso are the descendants of the war dogs of old Rome. They were very good hunting and farm dogs. They are very strong and have a great ability of working. They have a great speed and are very brave. This breed is still used for hunting and they are really excellent hunters. Their origin is Italy. They descended from Cain Pugnax and the Roman Molossian. They are named after the latin word Cohors which means oone who protects.

General Description

The Cane Corso is very large in size and too strong built and very brave. They have a muscular body, very athletic and have great stamina. They have a bigger length than their height. They have a strong compact figure and a thick skin. Sometimes it looks like that they are steel made. They have a broad shoulder and a wide chest which touches their shoulders. The The Cane Corso has a big head and a broad muzzle with a big black nose on the tip. Their entire face is square shaped and they have black almond shaped eyes. They have broad jaws the skin on which hangs down. The skin on their face is not at all wrinkled. The The Cane Corso has a docked tail and they are really very broad built. Cane Corsos do not have a single ounce of fat in their body. They have a very short coat which is found in colours like black, light fawn, deer fawn, blue grey etc.

Character

The Cane Corso is mainly used as guard dogs. They prove to be great companions and very gentle in nature. They love human interaction very much and they are very calm and affectionate. Generally these dogs are very shy and cannot mix with strangers so they should be trained properly from early ages. Their alertness makes them great guard dogs. They should be raised with other animals from young age otherwise things would go out of control when they grow up. Very powerful but agreeable at the same time. The The Cane Corso is a very devoted breed and they are also protective of their families. They are generally even tempered and good to others unless they are threatened. They do not attack others but they may be dangerous for trespassers. This is a good breed but they should be trained properly from early age. Not at all recommended for inexperienced owners.

Temperament

The Cane Corso is dominant at times and that’s why they need a dominant owner. This is a very good dog, they are sweet and loveable but they are not recommended for novice owners. They are so big in size that they are not at all at all recommended for houses with kids. This breed is a giant and they are also protective in nature. It is very confident and gentle. They would not harm the kids but they are not recommended for them due to their size. They are very loyal to their families and they may even be dangerous for trespassers. Cane Corsos cannot mix with strangers sometimes due to their shyness. The bull mastiff is a great companion and family dog. They are very alert and prove to be great watch dogs. If early training is provided they are also good to other pets.

Training

The Cane Corso is very powerful and dominant so it should be treated with firm hands. Not at all recommended for novice owners. As they are very intelligent and obedient they can be trained properly. But training should start from early ages.

Health

Due to their large size the The Cane Corso may be affected by bone problems. They can tolerate pain to a high level and so special care must be taken. Their average living rate is 10-11 and average litter rate is 12-14 puppies.
