History
The Abyssinian cat is a very popular cat breed and often known as Aby. It is very popular breed and the
reason behind its popularity is strange pointed coat. The actual history of the breed is not known by anyone but
it is said that the Abyssinian cats are the descendants of the Egyptian cats. South East Asia is said to
be the originating ground of the Abyssinian cat. Well these are all stories of people but actually the first
cat was found in Britain in the year of 1882. Till 1930 the breed was not recognized in United States.
General Description
The Abyssinian cat is not very large. They have a thin body, they are medium sized and are muscular.
They have thin legs, small and paddy paws. Abyssinians have a lengthy tail and their tail is broad a think at
the start and it becomes thin at the tip. The breed has a round and broad head and their eyes are large and almond shaped.
The colour of their eyes is generally golden, hazel or green. They have a small nose and a cute chin and are present in a
parallel line. They have a small head and large m shaped ears. The Abyssinian cat has pointed coat and there are no marks
on their legs or tail but marks are present on their face. The coat is not too big and they have a smooth look and feel.
They are mainly found in reddish brown, pink and blue colours.
Characteristics
The Abyssinian cats are very gentle in nature and they also prove to be great companions. But at the same time they are also
shy sometimes. They are generally shy towards strangers and they do not mix well with them. The Abyssinian cats are very intelligent
by nature and they listen to their masters well. They love to be family pets and love to stay with the family. They should not be left
alone for a long time as they might suffer from loneliness in such situations. Generally they are very well behaved and good to other cats.
It may happen that the females are a bit arrogant towards others. The Abyssinian cats are great lovers of water and prove to be great
friends. They are very much loyal and should always be kept engaged in work as if they are left idle they can behave in a destructive manner.
Abyssinians prove to be great house hold pets.
Health
This breed is generally a healthy one but may be affected by gingivitis. To protect them from this disease, it is necessary to brush their
teeth daily and they should be provided healthy food. They may also suffer from kidney disorders.
